China’s economic boom since its opening in the early 1980s has, without exception, led to unprecedented developments, rapid economic growth and remarkable prosperity in all urban regions. This is also associated with many social, economic and ecological challenges that urban planning is trying to master.
Diego Salmerón, member of the board of the Swiss Chinese Association, shows in his speech the challenges and opportunities that urban planning has taken up in the past 20 years, using the provincial capital Kunming as an example. He is a founding partner and managing director of LEP Consultants AG, a spin-off company of ETH Zurich in the fields of spatial and environmental planning.
