CHINARCHY is a flashback to the Chinese underground of the years 2004-2008. The focus is on punks who completely refuse the unrestrained gold-rush atmosphere in their own country and act like precious jewels on the black market with copy CDs of western bands.
In Shanghai in the 1940s, the actor, director, author and critic Shi Hui (1915-1957) was celebrated as the «emperor of the stage». Already in his first film role in the Shanghai exile film «Shijie ernü» (1941) of the Austrian film pioneers Luise and Jakob Fleck his screen presence was noticeable. Shi Hui took part in more than twenty movies and directed stage and movies until he fell victim to the Anti-Rightist Campaign in 1957. His films provide an insight into film-making and the political climate in Shanghai in the 40s and 50s; «Wo zhe yi beizi» (1950) is now one of the classics of Chinese film history.
