ZURICH CHINATOWN

Book Review: «Shanghai Strassenküchen» by Julia Dautel and Nicole Keller

I love cookbooks – and of all the cookbooks, and the many Chinese cookbooks I own, this is one of my favourites. In «Shanghai Strassenküchen – Menschen, ihre Geschichten und Rezepte» the two authors introduce street food from Xinjiang, Qinghai, Heilongjiang, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian.

The recipes are easy to understand and well described. And the layout of the book is a real eye-catcher. But the most exciting part are the stories the book recounts. These stories are about the street vendors who came to Shanghai from distant provinces to seek their fortune.

You can’t get enough of the delicious Shanghai street food? Watch this mouthwatering video – but better not on an empty stomach.
