The Swiss Eva Lüdi Kong received the prize for translation at this year’s Leipzig Book Fair. She translated no other book than the Chinese classic «Journey to the West» into German. The story of the monkey king that goes on an adventurous journey to fetch the sacred writings of Buddha is one of the major works of Chinese literature. The novel was first published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty. This translation by Eva Lüdi Kong makes it now available for the German readers.
Eva Lüdi Kong will be reading from her translation at the Paranoia City bookstore on 6 May. If you already want to start reading, get the book here.
